Basmane Garı

Basmane Garı, İzmir'in Konak ilçesinin Basmane semtinde yer alan TCDD'ye ait ana tren istasyonudur. İstasyon, TCDD Taşımacılık trenleri ve İzmir metrosu trenleri tarafından ortak kullanılmaktadır. Türkiye coğrafyasındaki ilk demiryolu hattı olan 130 kilometrelik İzmir-Alsancak – Aydın Demiryolu (ORC) hattının inşasına 1856 yılında başlanıldı ve bu hat 25 Ekim 1866 tarihinde hizmete girdi. Aynı yıl, inşasına 1863 yılında başlanan ve ikinci demiryolu olan 93 kilometrelik İzmir-Basmane – Kasaba (Turgutlu) Demiryolu (SCR&SCP) hattı da hizmete girdi. Basmane Garı, 19. yüzyılda Avrupalıların, İzmir Limanı ile ard alanı arasındaki ticareti kolaylaştırmak için giriştikleri demiryolu yatırımının bir parçasını oluşturmaktadır.
